fnd study time 1

FND Module | Becky | January 16th, 2000

Hello everyone,

I'm a bit worried about how long this Foundation Module may take me- I started in November and I was hoping to finish for the April submission date but as my teaching work load is higher this term than normal (I also teach English to the British officers)- I may not be ready to submit until July.   How long are other people finding this module is taking?   I have got hold of most of the core texts and I'm dipping into them but again I'm not sure how much reading is necessary.   Any advice most welcome!

Looking forward to hearing from lots of people!

Becky

Another new person (FND) | Dominic Marini | January 19th, 2000

Hello everyone,

I too have had the FND for many more months than I had planned! I'm disappointed that what seemed, on paper, to be an easy pace to keep up has proved impossible and I sometimes go days without doing any work. So don't be discouraged if you find it slow going.

I've just realized that my approach until now has been wrong. Instead of trying to find time to do the module --- carving time out of my usual schedule --- I realize that the MSc must become my life and I need to carve out some time from that for the other things I do for pleasure.   Easier said than done. I've unplugged my television, I didn't buy that novel that looked interesting: we'll how long it lasts.

All the best,

Dominic

Dear Participants,

There have been a lot people who have recently started the FND.   I would like to say hello.

For me the FND portfolio was quite difficult.   I think that the feedback I received on the FND is what really made start moving in the right direction on the course.   But to get feedback I had to submit something. From what I have read people seem to be taking a lot of time on the FND. I did too, but the results of that work started showing up later rather than sooner in the course, I think.   So what I am responding to here is this sense I have gotten from emails about where to start with the FND.   I guess my reflections on it are positive, as it was an excellent chance to see where I needed to focus my efforts on the course. I am really interested to hear about others' reflections on the FND, however brief.

Best,

Rob
