fnd study time 2

FND: Study Time | Karen Masatsugu | July 12th, 2001

Now for a general question about the FDN: How long in general do people spend on it? I'm worried about rushing through it too quickly on the one hand or going too slowly and doing too much background reading at this point on the other. Any advice?

Thanks for reading,

Karen Masatsugu

As far as your question about your studying is concerned I was also wondering about the right pace, time and amount of extra reading. This is what I do. I usually spend two days on each unit of the FND module and then I spend two days on the articles and as far as the extra reading is concerned that depends on the amount of the books from the references that I have in my library. On the whole, I usually spend five days on extra studying.

Of course, I don't have much experience but at least that's what I have done so far with the first two units.

I am also interested in finding out how the rest of the members of the module catch up with all that studying and how they have organized their time. If anyone has some pieces of advice and some ideas so that our studying is more fruitful, they are welcome to share them with us..... I am in panic sometimes and I can't help wondering whether my method is in accord with the requirements of this module. I guess, only time will tell.... But if anyone has any suggestions, they are more than welcome to make recommendations!!

Bye,

Efrosini

That's a good question, Karen! I share your worry as I've been studying for the FND for about six months and haven't sent it yet. I'm about to finish the last task, though. What I find intriguing about it is that the more you proceed, the more you feel the need to go back and review things or reform ideas of previous tasks or even find answers to questions that troubled you. All the parts are tied together and each one of them can be a source of inspiration and background knowledge for the next one.

How long have the rest of us been studying for it?

Hello, this is Jerry, writing from Toyama, Japan.

I've been working on the FND since the end of March, and I'm only about half-way done. I thought I would move through it more quickly, but I'm only now getting in the groove (could the fact that it's now summer vacation have anything to do with that?). Basically it has taken me this long to figure out how to study. I've got my plan down now, and just have to do it.

I agree with you, Aleka-san: I constantly feel the need to go back and redo the portfolio tasks in light of what I've learned in a new unit. As a result, I consider my first run through of each task as a "rough draft". Once I finish going through each unit, I will go back and do all the Portfolio Tasks in order and polish up my rough drafts. As always, making time for study is my most difficult challenge. I find it's largely a question of momentum - once I string a couple of good days together, I don't need as much energy to maintain my pace. I've experienced this phenomenon in other areas of my life, such as diet and exercise. The things I've learned in pursuit of health have come in handy for working my way through the FND.

Good luck! I hope you get high marks.

Jerry Talandis
