lexical density task

Help!

I'm having trouble with the lexical density task. Stubbs seems to contradict himself?! He gives us a list of items belonging to the G list for the computer program and a list of ambiguous words. Why is we've etc... on the G list when he has already pointed out (p35) that it can be one or the other according to the pattern of he's etc..., which is also on the G list only. I would have thought that we've can be two G words or one G word and one L word according to the context. Should I do it according to the list or according to what he says? Or is that the point of the exercise?

Susan,

I think the point of the exercise is to 1) make you aware that dividing words into L & G is not a cut and dried matter, & B) to force you to make your own, reasoned, choices in the grey areas. Don't be worried --- just do it. (Easy for me to say. I'm WAY behind in my work.)
