Google Scholar

Fantastic new Google resource | David Anderson | November 21st, 2004

I'd just like to let you all know about a fantastic new resource from Google.  It is called Google Scholar, and allows you to search for academic articles that are available on the net.  Google makes a calculated guess at to what it thinks is a scholarly content, probably by checking for things such as abstracts, lists of citations etc.  The search results are sorted by the number of times the article has been referenced in other articles.  In other words, you get to see which articles are liable to be seminal in the area you are researching.  The service also includes articles and books that are normally password protected as organizations have given Google permission to access them.   The service is still in its testing [beta] phase, though already it is a massive resource. I really recommend that you check it out.

Reviews and further details about this new service can be found here & here.

I wish I'd had this when I started the MSc!

Thanks for finding that one. I've checked it out and it is a massive improvement over the normal Google that you used to have to filter out the porn from the useful information.

I have added it to my website page.
