Hi Dawn,

Sorry I don't have anything specific to answer your question, but I can offer you some possibilities. I'm wondering if you've had a chance to check out some of the following websites. I found them by doing a google on "young learners." There are TONS of sites out there focusing on teaching children; it's just a matter of time before you come across a good one and find what you need. Perhaps some of these sites can get you started:

Skills & Education Network:
There are several articles here that may be of use. I haven't read them, but the abstracts look promising. Here's one of them:

Engaging young learners: What motivates young learners to engage?

Young people who are not motivated to engage in learning are more likely to be socially excluded and to find difficulty in getting a job. This Guide 2 explores the reasons behind low motivation and gives providers practical advice on motivating young people to engage in learning.

Hi Dawn,

Further to my private e-mail I forgot to tell you that there's quite a bit of on the ELT journal CD. I haven't read them all because they're so many.

Put in a specific search and see what you get.

If you've got 'Teaching by Principles' - H. Douglas Brown:

Chapter 4 - Teaching by Principles
Chapter 5 - Intrinsic Motivation in the Classroom

Also, van Lier's book has a section on motivation.
